# Zuri's Device > [!lotvk]- Lineage of the Veiled Kin — Known & Revealed > A circular golden, rune-etched mechanical device recovered from Zuri’s body. It hummed faintly with residual magic and resisted the party’s attempts to open or damage it. It remains an important planar-technology clue; its exact role in the divine interference was not proved by the initial examination. ([[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/01 - Sessions/Session 35 - Together We Grow|Session 35]]; [[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/01 - Sessions/Session 36 - To Ol' Hill|Session 36]]) > > ## Construction and contents > > Pipe examined it and read runes suggesting plane-shifting or conjuration. Mealla identified the metal as an alloy of adamantine and orichalcum. A knife blunted against it, and a needle bent against a transparent barrier over its small holes. The five sockets contained three dull grey stones and two glowing red crystals; the party identified the crystals as Aetherite. ([[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/01 - Sessions/Session 36 - To Ol' Hill|Session 36]], “Testing the Device: It Won’t Open”) > > ## Responses and testing > > Raphius tried directing his will at the device and heard its hum increase; casting Light made the hum easier to hear. These were observed responses, not a successful portal activation. The group chose to wait until after investigating the abandoned laboratory before experimenting further, fearing an unknown destination. ([[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/01 - Sessions/Session 36 - To Ol' Hill|Session 36]]) > > On the following morning, Raphius inferred that the two remaining red crystals might represent two charges and that each activation consumed one. This was an untested interpretation of the five sockets, not a demonstrated charge count or consumption rule. He did not regard the device as the answer to Myvendra’s test. ([[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/01 - Sessions/Session 36 - To Ol' Hill|Session 36]]) > > ## Possible connections > > Raphius recognised its silhouette as resembling the golden contraption on Lucius’s back in Eli’s vision and suspected links with Keth, the Order and related factions. That resemblance did not independently establish its manufacturer or a shared mechanism. The lower laboratory’s production line and log subsequently identified the recovered object with [[Rift Gate Device|Rift Gate technology]]. Raphius studied it during a rest and developed an understanding of its operation. The identification does not locate this particular unit’s manufacturing record. ([[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/01 - Sessions/Session 39 - The Laboratory (Part Two - Brogax Hungers)|Session 39]]) > > Elena initially suspected the device might produce the [[Divine Veil]], but that was her hypothesis. Healing appeared to dissipate during the same testing period; the later Leechers investigation demonstrated another source of stolen healing. Temporal coincidence alone does not establish the device caused either effect.
