## Appearance
Votoran is a broad, heavily armoured woman with a soldier's posture and a practical, no-nonsense presence. Her equipment and religious imagery carry subtle associations with storms and the sea rather than ornate ceremonial display.
## Known Facts
- Votoran was one of the original heist members who rescued [[The Rose of Igoda/07 - Characters/07b - Non-Player Characters/Rose|Rose]].
- From the beginning, she treated Rose as a frightened child rather than an object, prize or magical asset.
- She carried Rose during the escape, fed her, guarded her sleep and repeatedly put herself between the child and danger.
- Rose quickly began seeking safety from Votoran, including sleeping in her lap by the campfire.
- Votoran’s religious iconography includes a jagged lightning bolt split in two, the symbol of [[The Rose of Igoda/04 - Gods & Faiths/Kaegor|Kaegor]], the **Storm Father**.
- Her approach to Rose is often gentler than her armour suggests. She reframed washing and other ordinary tasks as choices Rose could make for herself rather than commands imposed on her.
- She promised Rose that she would keep her safe **no matter what happens**.
- Votoran has little patience for people who place plans, institutions or pride ahead of the child in front of them; she openly challenged [[The Rose of Igoda/07 - Characters/07b - Non-Player Characters/Sevril Yunis|Sevril]] when his attitude crossed that line.
- She shared an unexpectedly warm and awkward dance with [[The Rose of Igoda/07 - Characters/07b - Non-Player Characters/Trekor Loranian|Trekor Loranian]] in Thornhollow.
- During the Bardic Circle infiltration, [[The Rose of Igoda/07 - Characters/07a - Player Characters/Sofia|Sofia]]'s wild magic swapped their bodies. Votoran's immediate problem was discovering herself trapped in Sofia's dress, a state she endured with very little enthusiasm.
- In Session 7 she used **Spare the Dying** and **Aid** to help stabilise Rose after the party returned to the mansion.
- When [[The Rose of Igoda/07 - Characters/07a - Player Characters/Tilly|Tilly]] finally refused to move during the last woodland transition, Votoran calmed her, got her back to her feet and reminded her that Rose still needed them.
- In Session 9 Votoran reveals to Ahkai that she is originally from [[The Rose of Igoda/05 - Nations & Regions/Solland|Solland]], although she no longer thinks of it as home. She says she left because she wanted freedom.
- Votoran is experienced aboard ships and immediately volunteers to work for Captain Medina Syms rather than remain hidden below deck.
- As the Moonlit Bounty begins moving, she offers a habitual shipboard prayer to Kaegor: not for the storm to stay away, but for the people aboard to have the strength to weather what comes.
- When Ahkai asks why she follows Rose into danger, Votoran’s answer is that Rose is a little girl who is alone and deserves to feel safe.
- Votoran refuses Edgar’s attempt to blame the party for his ruin, telling him nobody forced him to put a blade to Rose and that he must stand by his own choice.
- During the storm fight she relentlessly pursues Edgar, lands a major radiant hammer strike, suffers repeated bleeding wounds and uses Cure Wounds to revive Sofia before later healing herself.
## Current Personal Threads
- Keep Rose safe while respecting that Rose is becoming an active part of the mystery rather than merely someone to hide.
- Understand the [[The Rose of Igoda/10 - Threats & Phenomena/The Popping|Popping]] that has already taken and returned her once.
- Help the party understand what the Bardic Circle, Elaris and Dharan reveal about Rose.
- Decide what justice should look like for [[The Rose of Igoda/07 - Characters/07b - Non-Player Characters/Edgar Sturron|Edgar Sturron]] after learning he was the person who stabbed Rose.
## Popping History
- Votoran popped out during the night after the party's time in Thornhollow, leaving her armour and belongings behind.
- She popped back into the active group during the race to the Bardic Circle Mansion, almost immediately after Agaricus disappeared.
- She remained with the active party throughout Sessions 6 and 7.
- During the late-night discussion in Session 8, Votoran abruptly popped away again and was still absent when the others boarded the Moonlit Bounty.

## Open Questions
- What is the wider nature of Votoran's faith and her relationship with the Storm Father?
- Will the Popping take her again?
- What does protecting Rose mean now that Rose herself appears able to affect the corruption in Dharan?
- How will Votoran respond if the party gets another chance to confront Edgar?
## Character Arc Notes
Votoran's defining trait is protection, but not the passive kind. She is at her strongest when she is giving somebody frightened enough stability to make their own next choice.
Rose has brought that instinct to the centre of the campaign. Votoran's role has gradually expanded from bodyguard to something much closer to a dependable parental presence, while the Popping keeps reminding her that she cannot guarantee she will always be physically there.
## Current Status
Aboard the [[The Rose of Igoda/08 - Locations/Moonlit Bounty|Moonlit Bounty]] with Ahkai and Sofia at the end of [[The Rose of Igoda/13 - Session Notes/Session 09 - The Moonlit Bounty Stowaway|Session 09]]. Votoran has returned through the Popping, is wounded but conscious, and is the party member with the strongest practical shipboard experience as the deck burns and mast fails.
