A scream” > - The fight plays out with [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] resisting the charms of the creatures and throwing her daggers at the matriarch, who squawks and hisses at her through pointed teeth. As she intentionally distances herself from the boat, [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]], [[Elena]], and [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] find themselves stepping off the boat after her, their eyes glistening with ensorcelled adoration, as they plunge into the icy waters of the fjord. > - A fury in her eyes, [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] draws her longbow and unleashes a hail of arrows onto the harpies, obliterating one of the smaller ones. > - With no sword and shield to hand, [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] — now returned to his senses — unsheathes [[Vhail's Blade|Vhail’s Blade]], perhaps too eagerly, and makes two devastating sword strikes against the harpies, now back on the boat, fuelled by his divine radiance. > - As the one remaining harpy twitches dead on the deck of the boat, the group breathe heavily. They discuss what happened — how they were all enraptured by the charming song of the foul creatures. [[Elena]] throws the body of one over the boat, back into the water. > - [[Elena]] positions [[Myst]] at the prow of the boat and holds onto the rudder tightly, looking through his eyes, trying to guide them safely to the end of the fjord. > - Before the boat drifts beyond the harpy lair, one particularly curious, younger harpy stays with the boat. However, [[Pipe]] casts Hypnotic Pattern and is able to distract the creature away from them, allowing them to safely navigate the fjord. > - On the first watch, [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] speaks to [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] and enquires about her bees, whilst she observes that he used [[Vhail's Blade|Vhail’s Blade]] again. She asks how he feels about returning to his homeland, and whether he is worried about being recognised and what that might mean. > [!star]- Memorable Moments > - 😱 **Oh Shit — Party:** The harpy matriarch’s song takes hold of almost everyone at once; weapons, judgement and self-preservation start disappearing over the side of the boat. > - 💔 **Disaster — Raphius / Mealla:** Under the charm, Raphius drops his sword and shield into the fjord and Mealla drops the staff carrying her beehive; the floating wood is the only reason the hive is not lost completely. > - ❤️ **Clutch — Persephone / Pipe:** Pipe is unconscious and rasping on the edge of death, so Persephone uses her **last healing potion** to bring him back. > - 🎯 **Badass — Mealla:** The matriarch tries to flee and reach the larger scream; Mealla answers with one devastating arrow through its back, dropping it into the water in a burst of feathers and flesh. > - 🧠 **Clever — Pipe:** A harpy tears a hole in the tarp and peers straight at Raphius through it; Pipe instantly covers the opening with a Minor Illusion and buys the hidden party another precious moment. > - 😱 **RIP Myst — Elena / Myst:** The party’s attempt to drift silently through the scream lasts until a harpy lands on the prow and obliterates Myst with a single claw swipe. ## Session Notes Sailing along [[Bokar's Hope|Bokar’s Hope]], putting the shipwreck behind them, the sound of song reaches their ears — faint at first, but enchanting, and growing ever louder. Having very quickly copied the spell that had survived the water damage in the spellbook that he found, [[Pipe]] turns to the back of the book and finds that it has been used as a journal of sorts. ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Locations & Shared Scenes/Sea Bokars Hope.jpg|780]] “I’m so sorry, I never meant to leave you. A scream” ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Session Artwork/Session 29/scream.jpg|780]] As he reads this entry, and the boat drifts closer, [[Pipe]] realises the scream refers to a scream of harpies, usually colonies of hundreds. As he looks up from the book, the song reaches through the darkness and [[Pipe]] finds himself strangely drawn to the song, standing there watching three harpies fly through the darkness towards their boat. The harpies flap around the boat menacingly — two smaller ones and a much larger matriarch. [[Pipe]] finds himself captivated by the song of one of the smaller ones, whilst the rest of the group brace themselves for an assault. However, the matriarch then begins her own song and everyone except [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] finds themselves helplessly charmed by this luring song. The fight plays out with [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] resisting the charms of the creatures and throwing her daggers at the matriarch, who squawks and hisses at her through pointed teeth. The harpies continue to claw and club at the party, with [[Pipe]] falling unconscious due to the onslaught he had endured. The matriarch lets out a roar of triumph, sensing victory — and this shrill paralyses [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] and [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] who had been treading water next to her. [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] drops his sword and shield, watching them sink into the depths. [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] drops her quarterstaff, with her beehive hanging off the top. Sadly, the hive plunges into the icy waters also. Fortunately, the wooden staff floats and prevents a complete loss of the hive, and shortly afterwards, [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] snaps out of her trance and frantically grasps for the staff, lifting the bees out of the water, clambering desperately back onto the boat. A fury in her eyes, [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] draws her longbow and unleashes a hail of arrows onto the harpies, obliterating one of the smaller ones. [[Pipe]] lies unconscious on the floor, his breathing rasping heavily, death not far from reach. However, [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] springs into action, and pours her last healing potion down the gnome’s throat, causing him to splutter back to consciousness. With no sword and shield to hand, [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] — now returned to his senses — unsheathes [[Vhail's Blade|Vhail’s Blade]], perhaps too eagerly, and makes two devastating sword strikes against the harpies, now back on the boat, fuelled by his divine radiance. Meanwhile, [[Elena]] has spent the entire fight under the spell of the harpies’ luring song and is still treading water, staring up at the matriarch with adoration. Sensing the tides turning against her, the matriarch begins to retreat, flying away. [[Pipe]] calls out to not let her escape, lest she reach the scream and summon more of her brethren to descend on the vulnerable party. [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] heeds this call, and lets loose a bolt that whistles through the air and ploughs into the back of the matriarch with devastating precision, causing a puff of feathers and flesh to explode in mid-air and splash down into the waters below. As the one remaining harpy twitches dead on the deck of the boat, the group breathe heavily. They discuss what happened — how they were all enraptured by the charming song of the foul creatures. [[Elena]] throws the body of one over the boat, back into the water. The boat now appears to have been taken by the current, and despite Elena’s best efforts, the boat is not responding to the rudder as the current is too strong. They are aware that the cliffs ahead may house many more harpies, and so they decide to try and stuff their ears with cloth, cover the boat with the tarpaulin sheet, and hide underneath it. [[Elena]] positions [[Myst]] at the prow of the boat and holds onto the rudder tightly, looking through his eyes, trying to guide them safely to the end of the fjord. As the vessel drifts down the fjord, the scream of harpies becomes louder and louder — several of them flapping and squawking nearby as they see the curious sight of an empty boat drifting down their habitat. As the group try to keep silent and hidden underneath the tarp, one of the harpies lands on the boat and sees [[Myst]] sat at the prow, and obliterates him with a single claw swipe. Several of the harpies then investigate the tarp and claw a hole in it, fighting each other for the opportunity to investigate it. One beady eye stares through the hole in the tarp and sees [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]], as [[Pipe]] quickly casts a minor illusion to make the tarp appear whole again. Before the boat drifts beyond the harpy lair, one particularly curious, younger harpy stays with the boat. However, [[Pipe]] casts Hypnotic Pattern and is able to distract the creature away from them, allowing them to safely navigate the fjord. The current continues to draw the vessel down the length of the fjord, and the rocks either side of them seem treacherous. The group decide that it would be too dangerous to risk sleeping in their current predicament, and decide to stay up and try and keep the boat in the centre of the current and away from the rocks. By staying up and keeping a vigilant watch, they wait until the sun rises before risking taking any sort of watch pattern. The group settle in for a rest as the morning draws on. On the first watch, [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] speaks to [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] and enquires about her bees, whilst she observes that he used [[Vhail's Blade|Vhail’s Blade]] again. She asks how he feels about returning to his homeland, and whether he is worried about being recognised and what that might mean. Their watches pass uneventfully, and the day closes as the current gets ever stronger. The water gets quite choppy and frothy as they near the end of [[Bokar's Hope|Bokar’s Hope]]. The group desperately try and navigate the rapids, but in the dark — with the speed at which the rocks are hurtling towards them — they are unsuccessful.
