[[Elena]] (sweet tooth fully engaged) spots a pastry stall and the pair buy honey and cinnamon pastries, enjoying them as they walk. A stall or two over, [[Elena]] catches the smell of spices and paprika and drags [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] toward a goblin vendor spit-roasting meat. [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] immediately bristles, but [[Elena]] asks what he’s selling. The goblin insists he’s “one of the good ones,” and proves it in the most unhinged way possible: he’s roasting goblin meat for sale. Even [[Elena]] backs away, telling [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] she wouldn’t be desperate enough to eat goblin. ### The blacksmith: [[Helra]] They reach a large, well-kept blacksmith workshop focused on nautical and fishing wares, run by a broad-shouldered, muscled woman in sooty goggles: [[Helra]]. [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] tries to introduce himself, gets visibly flustered by how attractive she is, and stammers. [[Elena]] smoothly takes over, introducing them and explaining they need supplies to maintain armour and weapons. [[Elena]] also asks if [[Helra]] has onglette gravers so she can start adding detail to her equipment. [[Helra]] rummages and brings out what they need, inspects their gear, and openly mocks how “shit” Raphius’ sword is. She then deftly grabs [[Vhail's Blade|Vhail’s Blade]] and draws it before [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] can stop her, admiring its quality before handing it back. [[Helra]] lets [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] use her forge to bring an edge back to his longsword. [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] asks [[Helra]] to join them for drinks later, and she agrees. [[Elena]] is deeply amused by Raphius’ awkwardness and even shares a wink with [[Helra]] while absorbing Helra’s engraving advice (angle, light touch, etc.). [[Elena]] pays 12g for supplies and the engraving tools, and practises on scrap metal while [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] works on his sword. ### [[Pipe]] and [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]]: library → pet permission Meanwhile, [[Pipe]] and [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] head into a dusty old library. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] complains that books are boring; [[Pipe]] argues books are knowledge. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] then pivots to: why can’t she have a pet when everyone else has animals? [[Pipe]] gently prods and realises what she wants most is companionship. [[Pipe]] offers a deal: if [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] reads a chapter on pet care from How to Care for Pets and passes his pop quiz, she gets his blessing to buy a pet. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] speed-reads it, answers perfectly, and earns approval. She rushes to the animal vendor. The vendor is wary (since Persephone’s companions previously called her irresponsible), but the note from [[Pipe]] carries weight. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] talks at length about caring for animals and what’s suitable, and ultimately buys a blue empress for 40g (it eats insects). She’s delighted with her new companion. ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Characters/Blue Emperess.jpg|780]] ### Back at the blacksmith: the bird and the fallout [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] heads to the blacksmith to show off the bird and thank [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] for lending her coin. [[Elena]], trying to concentrate on engraving, overhears and loses her cool, striking the pin hammer too harshly and piercing the metal, ruining the engraving. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] asks [[Elena]] directly what she thinks. [[Elena]], too harshly, tears into her: selfish, untrustworthy, irresponsible, and showing no regard for her companions—or the bird—because her whims come first. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] looks like she’s about to cry. [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] tries to keep the peace, but Elena’s anger swings to him; she admonishes him for enabling, then storms off toward The Golden Gull. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] asks [[Helra]] if she has anything that could protect the bird. [[Helra]] deadpans and offers her a bucket (the joke goes right past [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]]). [[Helra]] explains a suit of armour for a bird would stop it flying, and suggests maybe [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] shouldn’t be exposing the bird to danger in the first place. ### The Golden Gull and the deal with “Mayor Jack” [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] and [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] return to the tavern and find [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] alone at a table. [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] immediately spots the bird and is disappointed [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] bought it, warning it’s a bad idea. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] had hoped [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] would help train it. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] asks about [[Elena]]; [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] correctly guesses the argument was about the bird. [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] says Elena’s always annoyed and doesn’t like her. [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] says he doesn’t think that’s true—Elena’s annoyed because she cares and doesn’t want [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] hurt. [[Elena]], meanwhile, stalks through town furious and heads to the temple to calm down. She prays to [[Nyxthys]], unburdening herself. She reflects that travelling with a group is far harder than being alone, and that removing Raphius’ blade curse will be impossible if they keep getting dragged into petty distractions. She doesn’t expect (and doesn’t receive) a response, and concludes this is her issue to manage. She swings by the docks, spots two vessels—The Jackal and Dagger and The Frontier—hears ruckus from a bawdy tavern, and is grateful they aren’t staying there. She returns to The Golden Gull. [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] checks if she’s okay and offers her a drink. Shortly after, [[Eli Soothpin|Mayor Jack Godfrey]] arrives and sits with them. The group share what they know from [[Fink]] about Timetouched and [[The Order]]. They make a deal: - Eli (as the mayor) will use his ability with Persephone’s dagger to locate her parents. - In return, the party will spend tomorrow helping the town—repairing the bridge and doing tasks around Springcrest. - Tomorrow night they’ll meet again and keep Eli uninterrupted for the 6-hour ritual. ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Session Artwork/Session 24/The Misty Peaks Peaks Point Ritual 1.jpeg|780]] ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Session Artwork/Session 24/The Misty Peaks Peaks Point Ritual 3.jpg|780]] ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Session Artwork/Session 24/The Misty Peaks Peaks Point Ritual 2.jpg|780]] [[Pipe]] returns, is unimpressed by the idea of menial labour (and “greasing up a pig”), but is excited by the ritual involving [[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/09 - Items, Artifacts & Documents/Aetherite|Aetherite]] and the chance to locate the first laboratory. ### Drinks with [[Helra]], then the ritual vision As evening goes on, [[Helra]] joins them. Her presence continues to fluster [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]]; she plies him with booze until he can finally form a sentence… and then he passes out at the table. [[Helra]] bids them farewell and heads home. Dragging [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] upstairs, [[Elena]] helps herself to her share of the blacksmith costs from Raphius’ coin purse, then engraves the first rune [[Pipe]] deciphered for her—the one representing fire / burning / cleansing—onto [[Spada]]. The group sleeps comfortably, then wake to townsfolk clamouring for help (as promised). [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] dunks his head in a water trough to clear his hangover and joins breakfast. They spend a long, arduous day of manual labour: cutting boards, tying rope, and working on the bridge. As evening falls, they regroup at the tavern, eat a warm meal, then head to the mayor’s house to guard him while he performs the ritual. Eli produces a suitcase from under the bed and reveals a large shard of [[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/09 - Items, Artifacts & Documents/Aetherite|Aetherite]]—like the fragments set into the cultists’ rings. The shard glows as it nears any party member, which Eli notes is strange. He draws a runic circle, slows his breathing, and begins. The party takes positions outside to keep people away. As hours pass, energy gathers. A glow emanates from Eli. Wisps drift off the runes and the ritual image forms: A dark, cavernous place. Bars. A machine at the bottom of a vertical chamber. [[Lucius Neeve|Lucius]] in red-and-gold robes, long white hair, wearing an apparatus with tubes and vibrant flowing colours. He wears gloves and holds large shards of [[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/09 - Items, Artifacts & Documents/Aetherite|Aetherite]]. [[Lucius Neeve|Lucius]] speaks: the Dreamer will betray him, but she’ll give him the information he needs. A tinkering voice from behind the machine mocks him—[[Keth]]—and [[Lucius Neeve|Lucius]] snaps back that he needs Keth’s mind, not his mouth. The scene wavers as Eli strains to maintain it. The view turns to Selene (Persephone’s mother), face badly burned, and Persephone’s father beside her, missing a hand, comforting each other in their cage. Then [[Lucius Neeve|Lucius]] turns—spots something—levitates up, and stares as if looking through the vision toward the scrying itself. His features are warped by heavy [[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/09 - Items, Artifacts & Documents/Aetherite|Aetherite]] use: glowing red eyes, cracking skin. He smiles and says: “Eli…” Eli panics, yanks back, and shatters the image. In the last moments, he glimpses a mine and grass hills, whispers “[[Errowshire]]”, and tries to grab any landmark. The view swings, and a massive spire appears—one [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] recognises instantly as The Soul Spire. The image breaks. The ritual ends. Eli collapses back, sweating and panting. ## Session End State > [!success]- Where Things Stand > - [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] asks [[Helra]] to join them for drinks later, and she agrees. > - Meanwhile, [[Pipe]] and [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] head into a dusty old library. > - [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] heads to the blacksmith to show off the bird and thank [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] for lending her coin. > - [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]] and [[Persephone Amoransia Damnari|Persephone]] return to the tavern and find [[Mealla Glynn|Mealla]] alone at a table. > - Her presence continues to fluster [[Raphius Sunward|Raphius]]; she plies him with booze until he can finally form a sentence… and then he passes out at the table. ## Session Gallery > [!note]- Additional Artwork > ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Characters/Helra Dannet.jpeg|780]] > ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Locations & Shared Scenes/The Misty Peaks Peaks Point Night.jpeg|780]] > ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Characters/Zaleb Husta.jpeg|780]] > ![[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/99 - Attachments/Locations & Shared Scenes/The Misty Peaks Peaks Point.jpeg|780]] [[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/13 - Session Notes/Session 23 - Peaks Point|← Session 23]] · [[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/00 - Home & Navigation/Campaign Home|Campaign Hub]] · [[Lineage of the Veiled Kin/13 - Session Notes/Session 25 - Springcrest|Session 25 →]]
